High street app provides Christmas Cheer for the whole family
Created on 06/01/21
From spectacular light installations to hidden fairy tales the public were delighted to explore their high streets this Christmas with a series of fun, interactive trails on the LoyalFree app.
What does the LoyalFree app do?
Partnered with 27 towns and cities across the UK, the LoyalFree app was designed to increase footfall and sales in the high street. The app allows users to save money when they shop locally and discover exclusive deals, exciting local events and interactive trails.
Christmas Trails
To help support the high street whilst providing a touch of Christmas spirit, LoyalFree partnered with a number of Business Improvement Districts (BID’s) to create a series of captivating trails aimed at increasing footfall and encouraging the public to enjoy some socially distant fun.
Digital trails are a cost effective alternative to paper based trails, allowing you to collect comprehensive data whilst providing engaging interactive activities for the community.
Welwyn Garden City – Christmas Lights Trail
Welwyn Garden City BID placed 8 breathtaking Christmas light installations across the City Centre to welcome shoppers into the area. Each installation had a QR code that participants could scan using technology built into the LoyalFree app. Every interaction provided a chance to win one of many prizes and participants were encouraged to complete the trail, view all the installations and vote for their favourite. The Trail was live for two months over the Christmas period to ensure plenty of time for visitors and locals to enjoy the spectacular display. Partnered with a simple hash tag, #WGCXmas2020
The trail was viewed on the LoyalFree app over 2,847 times, received 133 votes and collected an incredible 1,973 scans.
Chichester – Fairy Tale Trail
Inspired by traditional Fairy Tales, Chichester BID created a delightful fairy tale trail. The public were invited to join the search for 12 large fairy tale books hidden in shop windows. Each with a QR code that could be scanned using the LoyalFree app. The digital trail encouraged people to visit and scan every location to be entered into a prize draw.
The trail was viewed 369 times and had a fantastic 451 scans collected.
Halifax – The 12 Days of Christmas Window Trail
Discover Halifax created a buzz celebrating seasonal scenes from a popular Christmas song. A local artist created a series of magical window murals in 12 of their high street shop windows, placing a QR code at all of the locations.
The Trail had 276 views with 180 scans.
Why were these trails so successful?
LoyalFree created eye catching posters that were placed around the towns and cities designed to make it fun, easy and obvious to both passers-by and app users what the trail was about and how they could join in.The trails were also supported by some brilliant marketing; promoted through social media, with fantastic photos, videos and a catchy hashtag to raise public awareness and encourage participation.
The simplicity of scanning and voting on the LoyalFree app made the trails simple and fun, plus each trail was incentivised with fantastic prizes encouraging engagement!
This Christmas was unlike any other and LoyalFree’s digital trails proved a great way to counter the predicted low footfall from covid restrictions. Not only did they encourage hundreds of people to discover more of their local high street, we also saw an increase in deals being collected through the app showing the public were spending in the local area.
