High street app brings Halloween family fun to Yorkshire
Created on 06/11/20
This Halloween the LoyalFree app brought interactive trails to many high streets, helping to engage the public in fun experiences in the local areas of Bradford, Ilkley and Brighouse.
What does the LoyalFree app do?
The LoyalFree app was designed to increase footfall and sales and is currently available in 27 UK towns and cities. The app allows users to save money when they shop locally and discover exclusive deals, exciting local events and interactive trails all from their smartphone!
Halloween Trails
Covid-19 and lockdown restrictions have impacted high streets across the UK with footfall slowing dramatically. The LoyalFree app is adaptable to meet the changing needs of the high street through innovative technology and features. Amidst new government guidelines that gave the green light to social distanced outdoor activities in October, there was an opportunity to bring safe, family friendly fun to the high street. Interactive trails through a phone app are perfect for Spooktacular Halloween fun for all to enjoy to encourage people to take time out together, get moving and discover their area during the October half term. From petrifying pumpkins to ghoulish ghosts, both local residents and visitors were invited to get involved with the Brighouse, Ilkley and Bradford Halloween Trails.
Brighouse Halloween Trail
Brighouse BID hid mysterious posters and eerie QR codes across the town which trail participants could scan using the technology built into the LoyalFree app. The Trail was held over 6 days to ensure plenty of time for visitors and locals to enjoy the spooky atmosphere Brighouse had to offer. The trail was used on over 100 phones and an incredible 1,323 scans were collected across the locations.
Bradford Pumpkin Trail
Bradford BID let loose 11 ghoulish pumpkins around the city to delight locals and visitors. Participants were encouraged to vote for their favourite pumpkin display which they could do easily with just one click within the trail on the LoyalFree app. The trail was viewed over 500 times and 137 went on to take part.
Ilkley Halloween Trail
Ilkley BID unleashed tricks and treats on its residents with their week long trail. App users could check in at each of the 36 locations on the trail by using the built in scanning feature. 882 scans were collected on this trail.
Why were these trails so successful?
Locals were thrilled to have a free and safe outdoor activity that the whole family could enjoy over a single day or stretch out the fun over the half term week leading up to the spooky holiday. Fantastic marketing around the towns and eye catching poster designs made it fun, easy and obvious to both passers-by and app users what the trail was about and how they could participate, attracting hundreds of people to discover more of their local high street. Usage of deals also went up during this time, showing the public were also spending in the local area.
Easy to follow instructions on the posters and app made sure checking in and voting was super simple and fun, plus the added incentive of fantastic local prizes encouraged engagement!
Offering an alternative to paper based trails or digitalising them completely, the LoyalFree app interactive trails help to increase engagement in the local community. These trails were a great success and we look forward to seeing more interactive trails in towns and cities near you in the future. There are already more than 8 Christmas trails on the way so keep your eyes peeled!
